As part of the LIFE SWEAP project, representatives of Inspectorate of Republic of Slovenia for the Environment and Spatial Planning (IRSOP), Financial Administration of RS (FURS) and the Police conducted two coordinated inspection controls of shipments of waste across borders in January. Inspections were carried out at the high-way parking area near Nova Gorica (near Italian border) and in the port of Koper.
During the control at the high-way parking area near Nova Gorica several of shipments of waste were inspected. It involved two cases of so-called “green listed” (or non-hazardous waste) and two waste shipments with prior written notification and consent). All trucks carried waste were properly signed (plate “A”) and minor or no irregularities were found. All shipments were released to continue.
In the port of Koper inspectors checked three containers. Two cases concerned the export of plastic waste from Slovenia to Morocco and India, in one case the export of plastic waste from Italy to Taiwan. administrative and physical checks were performed, no irregularities were found.
Having involvement of more than one authority during these types of checks, improves the effectiveness and efficiency and promotes inter-agency collaboration.
