Combatting waste crime in practice: Experience of the LIFE SWEAP Project

You are here: Home / News / Combatting waste crime in practice: Experience of the LIFE SWEAP Project

March 10, 2021 //  by Nancy Isarin

For the course ‘Combatting Waste Crime’  by the Academy of European Law (ERA), LIFE SWEAP’s Project Manager Ms. Katie Olley, delivered a training course on the practical experiences of the project. Her presentation is available online, as well as the other modules of the course.

The aim of the 4-session online workshop was to provide participants with a comprehensive overview of waste-related crimes which have raised major concerns in recent years. Emphasis was given to the EU legislation and case law relating to waste offences and crimes, the relationship between criminal and administrative law provisions for these crimes as well as the main challenges for investigation, prosecution and adjudication in this field. The workshop shed light on the protection of the environment through criminal law.
